Campbell River Partners for Animal Welfare Society: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Campbell River Partners for Animal Welfare Society (CRPAWS) is a cat-rescue society which works to rescue feral and semi-feral cats requiring medical attention, fostering and socializing, and adoption. If rescued feral cats are determined to be more suitable for TNR or barn/shop home placements, we work with caregivers to give these cats the best opportunity to live their lives in safe environments after receiving spay/neuter and appropriate medical care.
CRPAWS is grateful to have received this grant, which allowed us to take into our care eight cats from a semi-rural recreational area located 30 kilometers north of Campbell River, British Columbia. This grant went directly to the costs for spay/neuter, vaccinations, SNAP testing, anti-parasitic and flea treatments, and microchips for eight cats. We estimate the total number of cats brought out or to be brought out from this area to be 28 to 30, so the grant was much appreciated to help allay the costs associated with this large rescue project.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Velvet is a young cat who was humanely trapped in the recreational area by CRPAWS volunteers on April 17, 2025. She was assessed to be semi-feral and quite timid. Once placed in one of our approved foster homes, Velvet quickly blossomed and learned that laps and pets provided by humans, and playing and exploring in a safe indoor home, made for a pretty good deal! Velvet was posted on Petfinder as ready for adoption on June 25 and is currently posted.
