New England Puppy Rescue: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant has truly transformed our facility. Before, our outside play space was nothing more than dirt and weeds — an area that wasn’t safe or practical for puppies or the volunteers caring for them. With this funding, we were able to create a safe, sanitizable outdoor area where our puppies can go to the bathroom, soak up the sunlight, and stretch their legs during their stay with us.

The change has been life-changing not only for the puppies, who now have a healthier, more enriching environment, but also for our volunteers, who finally have a clean, functional space to give the puppies the outdoor time they need. It’s an upgrade that supports both animal welfare and the people who dedicate their time to caring for animals.

We are deeply grateful for this support. Thank you for helping us make such a lasting difference in the daily lives of our puppies and the volunteers who love them!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One of the first groups to benefit was a litter of spirited cattle dog mixes. True to their breed, they were bundles of energy — always ready to run, bark, and play.

Thanks to our revamped outdoor space, they had the freedom to do just that in a safe and healthy environment. Instead of being cooped up, they could release their energy, learn positive play behaviors, and thrive while waiting for adoption.

Today, each of them has found a loving home, but we know their time in this new play yard gave them the best start possible.
