A Forever Home Animal Rescue: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Numerous pieces of agility equipment were purchased using the using the $430 in grant money awarded to us by the Petfinder Foundation. We actually exceeded that amount, spending $535 to ensure we had the right equipment for our dogs.
In addition, a very expensive used 20-ft. dog tunnel (listed on Amazon new for $399) was donated to the rescue by a professional dog trainer. Grant money was used to purchase the saddlebags for each end of the tunnel. Furthermore, a coworker who is also a dog trainer at Disney donated a bungee tug toy that he made using materials he already had so there was no additional cost for this.
Volunteers (especially Liz Bensman) really got into this project, and we have found that when our volunteers let the dogs out into our backyard area, more time is spent interacting with the dogs using the equipment. In addition, a licking mat slow-feeder package was purchased and helps to relieve anxiety for some of our dogs and keep them occupied.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Sugar (first photo) is a 7-year-old Manchester terrier/black and tan coonhound weighing 54 lbs. She was left on our doorstep this summer, tied to the railing. She had several tumors on her body and we ensured she received surgery to remove these tumors. During her recovery, the agility equipment was used to help her get back in shape and keep her active. She has healed beautifully and is available for adoption.
