Ziggy's Haven Bird Sanctuary: Other Animals Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant helped us purchase high-quality specialty foods for some of our flock. The dietary requirements of parrots are very varied. When these animals come to us, some have been fed very poor or inappropriate diets.
How many pets did this grant help?
This grant will help three birds through a year.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
We have a scarlet macaw surrendered who was to our adoption program. When he came to us, his top beak was so overgrown that it was rubbing the side of his face. He was not capable of eating properly. His weight and feather quality were very poor.
It has taken multiple visits to the vet for corrective action on the beak. Due to the overgrowth and subsequent sensitivity after the vet trimmed his beak, he needed a specialized diet.
Bruno is still on the mend. The grant will help us keep him fed with the highest-quality nut and pellet mix available. He will gain weight and begin to heal physically as well as mentally. He has not been posted on Petfinder yet due to continued vet care required.
