Dogs Playing for Life: Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed DPFL to serve dogs from all over North Florida who needed care during the hurricanes of 2024. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, these dogs were not only able to stay safe from harm's way, but were also given DPFL enrichment and training, equipping them to find homes of their own, both directly from the Canine Center and through our transport partners!

Athena came to DPFL when her shelter, which provides only outdoor housing, was under flood watch. She quickly blossomed through participation in playgroups, and it didn’t take this shy girl long to become a staff favorite.

She played, trained, and got lots of attention from our team during her time with us. After several weeks of training and enrichment, Athena was adopted by a loving family that was able to share the holidays with her!
