How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant for Kong toys provided a fantastic boost to our pups' kennel life. We try to give our dogs the nicest, cushiest life they can possibly have while waiting out their time in our kennels, and most of them truly love their "home" away from home. However, not all respond the same way, and some, of course, become stressed and anxious.

These toys have become a vital part of our routines, offering both mental stimulation and physical exercise for the dogs in our care. It's amazing that the Kongs can be sterilized and re-shared among the kennels, and they last a very long time even for the most determined chewers. They help keep our pups happy and engaged for the hours they aren't able to be in the outdoor play yards at our facility. Thank you!

One of the dogs who truly benefited from these Kong toys is Beaux, a lovable border collie. Beaux had quite a journey before joining us. He was originally from Georgia and ended up in our care all the way down in South Florida after being picked up by Animal Control when his previous owner faced some difficulties and ultimately ended up incarcerated. After Beaux had spent four months with us, we were thrilled when his original owner’s mom found him through our social media posts.

Our president, Robby, and his boyfriend were, of course, ecstatic after hearing there was the possibility of reuniting Beaux with his former family. They dropped everything and made the heartfelt trip seven hours north to reunite Beaux with his owner in Cordele, GA.

Throughout his time at the rescue, Beaux was undeniably attached to his Kong ball. It was his favorite toy, and he wouldn’t go anywhere without it. He’d come and lay it at your feet with that typical border collie bow and patiently wait, still as statue, for you to throw the ball. No matter how many times you would throw it, it was just as good as the last in his eyes.

The joy we saw in Beaux when he was reunited with his owner was priceless. Thank you for helping us bring joy to dogs like Beaux!
