The Runaways Animal Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation's Kia Pet Adoption Grant helped Runaways Animal Rescue find loving forever homes for 32 pets! Many of the animals that we offered reduced adoption fees for were our longer-stay residents at the shelter, had special needs, or were senior dogs who typically can struggle in a shelter environment.

Because of the funds provided through this grant, many of these animals were adopted in time to be in their very own homes for the holidays. Runaways Animal Rescue was able to promote reduced adoption fees on our social media, helping to raise awareness of animals in need of homes and bringing people in the community to our shelter, many for the first time!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ruffles is a 13-year-old dog (first and second photos) who was abandoned at a veterinarian’s office. Runaways Animal Rescue was contacted and asked if we could take this older gentleman in, and that was a very easy YES! Ruffles’ skin condition was poor and he was missing much of his furry coat. After some much-needed love and veterinary care, Ruffles’ skin healed and he was ready to be adopted! His new mom and dad drove over an hour and a half to come meet Ruffles and it was love at first sight. The third photo is the day Ruffles was adopted into his new family. We could not be more happy for them all!

Topsy and Jujubee are two very sweet, special needs kitties that were so fortunate to be adopted together! Topsy was born with mild to moderate cerebellar hypoplasia (CH). Although Topsy wobbles a bit when she walks, this does not slow her down and her new forever mom couldn’t wait to take her home. Jujubee was born with congenital hypothyroidism. Jujubee’s mom understood that she would need an affordable medication twice a day to keep her feeling her best. These two special needs sweethearts are now living their best life in the most loving forever home!

Manatee is a 1.5 year old micro bully who was previously and sadly returned to the shelter twice. Manatee is a special needs dog who is deaf and has very big puppy energy. As it turns out, three times in this case was the charm! You will see from his adoption photo that Manatee was adopted into a home that fully understands him as they already had a resident dog that looked like he could be his brother. The staff and volunteers at Runaways Animal Rescue are so happy for this sweetest boy! He deserves the very best and he sure found it!
