Voiceless Moments Dog Sanctuary and Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We were awarded $1,000 through the Kia Pet Adoption Grant program. With this money, we were able to adopt out 10 dogs to loving families. The $1,000 covered ten $100 adoption fees, which helped each one of these dogs find their forever homes.

Casper (first photo) was our first recipient to be adopted out through the grant. He went to a home over an hour and a half away.
He’d had a lot of bad luck in his early years. He was thrown out of a car onto a dead-end street. He distrusted humans so much that it took us three days to trap him. When we took him in for his intake exam, it was determined that his teeth and mouth were in horrible shape. He was missing most of his hair due to a fungal infection and flea infestation.
We took Casper in for a dental. We received two calls that day. The first was to tell us that Casper was going to need all of his teeth removed: 39 teeth in total. Three of them had already rotted away, which led us to the second call. The second call was to tell us that, where the teeth had already rotted away, the infection had traveled down to his jawbone and eaten away enough bone to cause a fracture in his lower mandible. It seemed that the only break that Casper was catching was that he was taken in by the rescue and treated properly.
Meanwhile, Ms. Miller from Murray, KY, had been searching for a smaller dog to be her companion. She met with Casper and instantly fell in love with him (second photo). She was not put off by his misfortunes earlier in life. She just knew he was the one for her. So, after being approved for the adoption through our rescue, she came and took Casper home.
Today, he is living the high life as a single dog, getting all the care, love, and attention he could possibly want.
We have several stories like the one we have just told. Nine other dogs had similar backgrounds, with different circumstances behind them. They were all able to find good homes to call their own, and the Petfinder Foundation helped make this possible by covering their adoption fees.
