Pawlife Rescue Group: Emergency Medical Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The grant helped us pay for emergency surgery for one of our older puppies who broke his hip. We had fundraised most of the cost but came up short and this grant helped us cover the surgery bill.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Fozzie was approximately 10 months old when, during play at a foster home, he fell off the couch and, we later found, broke his hip. He had prior pelvic issues, which we later discovered from the X-ray showing the break.
Within five days of the X-ray being performed, we were able to raise enough funds to cover half of the surgery fee. With the help of the Petfinder Foundation grant and continued fundraising, the cost was covered.
Fozzie was an excellent patient during his recovery. He had to be crated for four weeks post-op before having short walks. PROM (passive range of motion) exercises were performed to keep his joints active. One complication from the surgery is that, due to nerve bruising, Fozzie has been knuckling on his rear foot.
Due to this complication, Fozzie is still with his foster family. He wears a “toe-up boot” to help with the knuckling. After two months, he is using his leg and is walking on it, but only with the help of his bootie.
