Beyond the Fight Initiative: Wag Wine Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant paid for 12 of our dogs to get heartworm testing! All but one of our dogs came from the same animal-cruelty court case (had the same intake day), so they were all due for heartworm testing the same month. We're a small rescue and this was a large expense for us, especially considering that we would also need to purchase heartworm prevention! We're so appreciative for this grant because we were able to get all of these dogs tested within a week and keep them up-to-date on their prevention.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Sunshine (first four photos) is a sweet girl who is a giant puppy. She’s 65 lbs. but she spent the first year of her life living outside on a heavy chain. She didn’t get a real puppyhood so she’s still learning how to be a big dog!
Because she’s a big dog but still exhibiting puppy behavior (mouthing, etc.), she was having a hard time being adopted. This grant allowed us to pay for heartworm testing for 12 of her friends in rescue, which in turn allowed us to save enough money to send her to a monthlong board-and-train at our dog trainer’s house. Sunny was adopted two weeks into her training and she’s very loved by her new parents.
Zoe (photo 5) is a lovebug and a professional snuggler. When she was at the vet getting her heartworm test done, she approached a couple and turned on the charm. A few days later, the couple reached out and asked to adopt Zoe because they had just had to put their senior dog down at the vet and Zoe had been a bright light on a very dark day.
