Bunnychick Haven of Navarre: Other Animals Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Other Animals Grant from the Petfinder Foundation significantly elevated the standard of care for the 90 animals in our care during this period, including 64 bunnies, six guinea pigs, and 20 chickens (including seven babies).
These funds provided essential high-quality timothy hay, specialized nutrition, and absorbent bedding, ensuring a healthy environment for every resident. By investing in durable housing and enrichment toys, we reduced stress and promoted natural behaviors, directly supporting our successful adoptions during this timeframe. This grant ensured our rescues received the comfort and dignity they deserved while waiting for their forever homes.
How many pets did this grant help?
Well over 100
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
In December 2025, a friendly guinea pig named Buddy (first photo) was found roaming a local neighborhood. When he was brought to the Haven, the Other Animals Grant allowed us to immediately provide him with a proper habitat, specialized food, and species-specific enrichment.
This support allowed Buddy’s huge personality to shine; he even attended our local Snowbirds Festival, where he was a total star. Thanks to the stability provided by this grant, Buddy was adopted by a loving family very quickly.
When Curly the goat (second photo) joined the Haven family, he was in a heartbreaking state: sick, lethargic, and suffering from a heavy flea and worm infestation that prevented him from eating. The Petfinder Foundation funding was vital in securing the medical care and specialized medicine he needed to recover.
Today, Curly is a completely different animal. He is healthy, eating well, and has become a playful, active member of our sanctuary family.
Snow White the hen (third photo) arrived at the Haven skittish and unsocialized. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to provide high-quality feed and a comfortable, stress-free environment that allowed her to settle in.
Within six months, Snow White’s health improved so much that she began laying beautiful bluish-green eggs every day. More importantly, she has gained the confidence to socialize with the other chickens and has even formed a charming bond as “best friends” with Curly the goat.
In early 2026, a resourceful family spotted a lone domestic bunny roaming their neighborhood. After several failed attempts to catch the quick-footed rabbit, they reached out to Bunnychick Haven of Navarre for expert help.
Using a specialized humane trap purchased through the Other Animals Grant, we provided the family with the equipment and “sweet” advice — using a banana as bait — needed for a successful rescue. Now named Alice, this beautiful girl is thriving at the Haven (fourth photo).
The stability and high-quality nutrition provided by this grant ensure that Alice remains healthy and happy while she waits for her perfect forever family.
