Miami-Dade County: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation 2025 Dog Enrichment Grant has played a vital role in supporting the Animal Services Dog Enrichment Program and enhancing the daily lives of our shelter dogs. This program helps ensure dogs experience a higher quality of life while in our care by reducing stress, promoting positive behaviors, and supporting their overall physical and emotional well-being.

Grant-funded enrichment includes playgroups as well as in-kennel enrichment items such as Benebone chew toys, dental chews, and Kong Goodie Ribbon toys. These resources provide mental stimulation, help alleviate anxiety, and encourage healthy outlets for energy, all of which contribute to improved kennel behavior and overall adoptability.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

While this particular pet has not yet been adopted, the grant has had a meaningful impact on Mufasa, a 3-year-old male Akita mix. Mufasa is incredibly sweet, easygoing, and great on leash. He has captured the hearts of many of our staff, including mine. Through the enrichment items and activities made possible by this grant, Mufasa is able to engage in positive, calming behaviors that help reduce kennel stress and support his emotional well-being.

Meet Mufasa here.
