Puppy Pleasers Rescue: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant was used for Cooper. It covered his adoption fee and have helped us provide some items for him. The adopters have also agreed to use the grant before the end of this year (2024) to do a follow-up appointment and for care regarding his slightly developing arthritis. We will be reimbursing his medical bill, which will include meds if any are needed. As a back-up plan if they are not able to get him scheduled with a vet in time, we will order some supplies/supplements for Cooper that the adopters pick out and need.

Cooper had been in our care for quite a while with no real adoption leads until we were able to secure this grant. Coincidence? Who knows, but we are thankful for it!
A short little backstory on Cooper: He was with us as a young adult, but was returned several years later after his owner fell ill earlier this year. She and her son tried their hardest to keep Cooper as long as possible while she was in and out of the hospital, utilizing boarding facilities, staying at different hotels, etc., but the illness she had was progressive and not going away. They wanted nothing more than to know Cooper would be safe and in another home that loved him as much as they did.
We found a wonderful foster family where Cooper settled in. We tried for some months to find a permanent home for him, but no one was particularly looking for an older fellow. A couple of weeks after we received the grant, we got an application on him! We were so excited to know that someone would want a large senior dog — and a dog who needed someone to be home a lot.
The application was reviewed, hoping that it would be a match. With some uncertainty, we asked additional questions, which the potential adopters had great answers to. We set up a home visit between the fosters and potential adopters. All went well!
We decided to arrange another home visit, this time with us, the fosters, and the potential adopters, with the expectation that Cooper would be going to stay this time. He did well and seemed to like his new space and people. He was officially adopted that day!
We have received a few updates since, and even a video showing just how much he has been enjoying himself. His new pet parents love him and are doing all they can to provide him with the best life. He lives with two cats and they are all friends.
