Central New York SPCA: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant has been wonderful for our organization and the pets in our care. One of the most significant benefits has been the ability to provide easy in-kennel enrichment for our dogs. These enrichment activities have vastly improved the quality of life for all the dogs, but especially for our longer-stay and senior dogs, who benefit from mental and physical stimulation. Our longer-stay dogs often struggle from kennel stress, and having LickiMats and Kong-style toys are so beneficial for them.
We are particularly excited to start implementing targeted enrichment programs designed specifically for these long-term and senior residents. These programs include personalized activities that cater to their unique needs and preferences, helping to keep them engaged, happy, and healthy.
Thank you so much for your generous donation and providing resources to enhance the lives of the pets in our care.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Mocha, a 10-year-old dog who has been with us for six months, had been showing increasing signs of stress in the shelter environment. Yet beneath this stress, she has always shown an enthusiasm for learning, engaging in activities, and connecting with people.
The grant has allowed us to provide Mocha with specialized enrichment programs that have dramatically improved both her behavior and her overall happiness. She has thrived with new enrichment tools like LickiMats, food-fillable toys, and scent activities. These engaging tools not only keep Mocha mentally stimulated and content but will also benefit other long-term and senior residents at our shelter.
We’re confident that these enrichment activities are helping Mocha develop the skills and stability she needs to transition successfully to her forever home.
