We were shocked when we first saw Sophia and the other 25 Yorkie dogs living in a tiny shack in rural Georgia. It was painfully evident the dogs had been overbred and severely deprived of veterinary care.

Without a second thought, we, along with a few other rescue organizations, banded together to help all the dogs.

The vet, after a careful examination, noted that Sophia’s ear had completely swollen shut due to the severity of her condition, and her teeth were in terrible shape. She received immediate medication, had a detailed dental examination, and was quickly scheduled to be spayed.

Shortly thereafter, we took her to a groomer, who uncovered poop mats entangled under Sophia’s arms and tail. Sophia went into a foster home to recover from her spay and ear infection while we looked at what her future would be.

Sophia was chosen for the Petfinder Foundation senior grant and this became the help she needed to find her forever home! With this grant, we were able to adopt her to a home that will love her for the rest of her days, and also to give them funds to help pay for Sophie’s dental-care needs. The family could not be more pleased with the outcome and love her dearly already!
