Friends Furever Animal Rescue: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

To fully implement our Rescue Recess volunteer dog-walking program, we applied for and were awarded a grant to purchase Adopt Me martingale collars, Adopt Me leashes, vehicle seat belts, EasyWalk harnesses, and training treats.

Before having the Petfinder Foundation-funded grant supplies, we made do with not-as-secure loop leashes to drive and walk boarded, adoptable dogs during volunteer outings and our group pack walks. The new supplies also increased the visibility of these adoptable dogs to the public.

As a bonus, we have been loaning out the collars and leashes to our foster families so that they can highlight that the dog is still looking for a forever family.

We anticipate the supplies to last a few years, so they will likely showcase a few dozen adoptable, boarded dogs to the public during individual volunteer outings, group pack walks, offsite adoption events (e.g., puppy pool parties), and foster homes.

We had a young, one-eyed black dog in boarding named AJ (first and second photos) who had no behavior issues. He just didn’t photograph well and didn’t catch anyone’s eye.

We began using the brightly colored Adopt Me collar and leash with AJ on his daily walks. An experienced, older couple submitted an application to meet him. After 11 months in boarding, AJ was going to a home where he would be surrounded by love.
