Granite Country Animal Partners, Inc.: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We LOVE KONGs. Any and all of them. We typically have large dogs in our care, and KONGs hold up to all the chews they've got. We stuff the KONGs with goodies -- canned food, dry food, mixtures of cheeses and sugar-free applesauce, peanut butter -- and freeze them. They help these angels pass time in their kennels or when they're just hanging out with their foster families.

Georgia and Peaches are my personal fosters. Both have been with me for over a year.
Georgia (first four photos) is a middle-aged girl who came to us strongly heartworm-positive and emaciated, with a luxating patella and two mast cell tumors.
She was treated for heartworm and, once her recovery time was up for that, the patella was repaired and mast cell tumors removed. Clean margins were achieved. Unfortunately, at the six-month mark post heartworm treatment, she still tested mildly positive. We are about to retest in the next week or so; fingers crossed.
She loves her KONGs. In fact, Georgia loves everything. She has been on Petfinder for a long time but has had no interest.
Peaches (photos 5-7) came from a local shelter suffering from a gunshot wound to her shoulder and was heartworm-positive. Saving the leg was questionable, but we went ahead with extensive surgery. Amazingly, after months of care and rehab, the leg is 99 percent fine!
Once heartworm treatment was complete and the leg was released for action, she tore her cranial cruciate ligament. She is currently recovering from surgery. Best dog EVER. She isn’t on Petfinder yet, as she has some recovering to do!
She loves her stuffed KONGs. They help her pass lots of time when she’s on kennel restriction/leash walking.
