Humane Animal Treatment Society: Cat Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
With the support of your grant, we were able to purchase and install four Shor-Line Kat Portals in our stainless steel kennel banks. We have seen incredibly positive results, both in terms of enhanced feline well-being and operational efficiency.
The innovative design of the Kat Portals has allowed us to open up the two small kennels at the top of each bank, effectively doubling the living space for a single feline resident. This configuration provides a dedicated area for rest and food, along with a separate space for litter needs. Additionally, the versatility of the portals allows for the easy separation of kennels when required, ensuring the comfort and safety of individual cats.
We are happy to report that the cats in our care have enjoyed the additional living space afforded by the Kat Portals. We have observed an increase in overall contentment and reduced stress levels among our feline residents who are housed in kennels with portals.
To date, we have successfully installed seven portals, and we plan to continue this effort until we have portals in all 11 of our holding-area kennel banks.
Thank you for your commitment to the welfare of animals and for making this project possible. Your support has truly made a difference in the lives of the cats under our care at HATS.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Patch, the charming little tuxedo kitten, and Peekaboo, adorned with unique smoky salt-and-pepper fur, arrived this winter in desperate need of care. Both brothers were facing severe eye issues. Peekaboo’s eyes had not developed normally, resulting in limited vision, and Patch required the removal of one eye.
Patch and Peekaboo spent their recovery time in a stainless steel kennel with a new Kat Portal. The additional space provided by the Kat Portals has given them room to explore, play, and engage in their adorable antics. Despite their challenging start, these resilient kittens are now thriving, feeling much better, and radiating with playful energy.
The portals have not only facilitated their physical recovery but have also contributed to the emotional well-being of these special brothers. Peekaboo, with his limited vision, navigates the expanded space with confidence, and Patch enjoys the added space for playtime.
