PAWS Atlanta, Inc.: REDI Implementation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were incredibly excited to receive our REDI Implementation Grant, which allowed us to purchase a feline comfort suite for our cats who are recovering from a surgery or illness at PAWS Atlanta.

We ordered the suite in mid-October from Midmark Company (Shor-line) and assembled it in early December. The unit is currently in our veterinary clinic isolation unit at the shelter. The comfort suite gives our felines room to roam, including a side “litter” room separate from the main living area.

Our hope is to lower stress and help our cats stay healthier and happier as they recover, as well as to meet the primary goals of our veterinary clinic to “(1) provide the best care possible that our animals deserve, (2) remove any medical barriers that might exist that impedes their ability to be adopted (reducing their length of stay as well), and, in turn (3) open up space at the shelter for other animals to come into our care and find their forever home.”

While we just recently assembled our feline comfort suite, we typically care for 60-100 cats per year who require some level of medical care (i.e., spay/neuter surgeries, amputations, treatment for infections, etc.) and this grant will support most of these animals in their recovery.

We are so grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for making this care possible and helping our animals at PAWS Atlanta flourish. Thank you!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

A very special pet who is being helped by our REDI Implementation Grant is Sparrow (first photo).

Sparrow came to PAWS Atlanta on Nov. 14, 2023. She is a very sweet kitty, but also very scared because of everything she has been through.

She is being treated at our shelter for an upper-respiratory infection. After we assembled our comfort suite, Sparrow was one of our first cats to use it. The suite allows us to move slowly, building a relationship with her, while also keeping her in a clean environment where she has plenty of time to move around and recuperate.

Sparrow has not been adopted yet, but we are hopeful that once she fully recovers, she will quickly find a loving new home.

You can meet Sparrow here.
