PAWS Atlanta: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Our KONG toys arrived at PAWS Atlanta on March 22, much to the delight of our staff, volunteers, and especially our dogs! They have already been a big hit. Our dogs love KONG toys and we are extremely grateful for this special gift. We have been entertaining our dogs with them in those times when they are in their run, and especially on rainy days when getting outside to our play area is not possible.

One important way we are using our KONG toys is with our special “long-term guests” at PAWS Atlanta (dogs who have been with us over one year), particularly pups who are frustrated and/or have medical conditions. We always keep frozen peanut-butter KONGs in our veterinary clinic to give the dogs enrichment in those long, dull hours that our trainer, Marlee, is not working with them.

All of our dogs enjoy KONGs, but pups like Dee, Cash, and Squirrely absolutely love them. And with the toughness of KONG toys, we know our dogs will be able to use them for years to come.

We are including a video here of Puff, one of our dogs, enjoying the new KONGS: https://youtube.com/shorts/0uad_5HKot0?feature=share

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

A very special pet who is being helped by this grant is Squirrely, a 7-year-old terrier mix at PAWS Atlanta.

Squirreley is a big fan of playing outside and also of KONGS, especially if they are filled with peanut butter. She always enjoys a special treat as she is waiting to be adopted into a loving home.

Squirreley loves people and is a very skilled snuggler. She’s just an adorable girl and she — like all our pets — is so thankful to KONG for this special grant.

Squirrely is available for adoption and is posted on Petfinder here.
