All About Cats: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Finding a home for a senior cat, especially a bonded pair of seniors, can be challenging, with older cats often being overlooked for kittens. Being able to offer a no-fee adoption plus funds for continued care of an adopted pet helps to open doors for these often overlooked kitties.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Max and Scully came to us when their owner passed away and no one in the family was able to keep them. They came to All About Cats in July 2025 and went to a foster home.

After they’d spent their whole lives in one place, it was hard on these two gentle giants to be in a new place. We eventually placed them in our PetSmart location, where they had many admirers but no takers. They were either too old or too big or both.

We were determined that they stay together and applied for the Petfinder Foundation Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant in the hope that we could find the purrfect home for them. We received our award letter on Oct. 9 and on Oct. 17 a couple stopped by our Saturday adoption event at PetSmart. The woman had seen the boys at PetSmart and couldn’t stop thinking about them. We were excited to share the news with them that we had grant money to cover their adoption fee and for ongoing care!

Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation’s support, these two gentle giants found their forever home!
