All About Cats: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant helped us increase adoptions by allowing us to discount the fee for pair adoptions. We started applying the grant to pair adoptions on Sept. 6 and had enough to support the adoption of pairs through Nov. 10. Overall we had 72 cats and kittens adopted during this timeframe and 30 of those were in pairs. By finding forever homes for more of our cats and kittens, we were able to say yes to more requests to take in homeless cats from our community and overcrowded shelters.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Admiral, Cerulean, Periwinkle, and Azure — the “blue” kittens — were discovered by a family’s dog under their toolshed. They installed cameras and kept a watchful eye for their mother, but she was never seen. At only two weeks old, they required care from a experienced foster.

Admiral and Cerulean were the first to be adopted together (first photo). Admiral’s adopter had just lost a kitten to FIP and was eager to fill the void. Her mother, who lives with her, quickly fell in love with Cerulean and decided to take advantage of our grant and adopt her to keep the pair together.

That left two siblings: Periwinkle and Azure (second photo). We hated to see them split up but had an adopter who wanted to adopt Periwinkle. She already had another cat and wasn’t interested in two. After seeing the two of them together, she couldn’t bear to break them up. The Kia Pet Adoption Grant sealed the deal and Periwinkle and Azure got to stay together!

Tiny came to us from a colony of cats that was being cared for by an elderly woman. When she passed away, All About Cats was asked to take in some of the friendlier cats. It took a long time for Tiny to get comfortable with people, so he stayed in his foster home for six months.

During that time, another shy stray, Cindy Loo, was added to the foster home and the two of them became fast friends. Their adopter lived in a small apartment and was initially interested in adopting Cindy Loo. When they learned she had a best buddy and that we could reduce the adoption fee, they decided to open their hears and take both shy kitties into their home (third photo).

So many of our pair adoptions would not have happened if it weren’t for the generous grant from the Petfinder Foundation and Kia!
