Sometimes our volunteers at Whiskers TNR of Warren County just seem to be in the right place at the right time. That was the case in May, when we were invited back to a rural property
where we’d helped with a large TNR project last year: the more than 40 cats and kittens known as the “’80s Music Legends.”

While we were there, a new cat caught our eye. She was already spayed, ear-tipped, and friendly, but also remarkably thin and covered in her own drool. Reba – as we call her now – seemed to be fighting for her life. Her caretaker, a veteran with disabilities, agreed, saying he suspected he’d find her dead one day soon if Whiskers didn’t intercede.

We knew we couldn’t leave her like that, so our incredible veterinary partner, Animal Medical Clinic Merle Hay, got Reba in the next day. An exam and bloodwork brought good news and bad news: Reba had stomatitis and needed to have all her teeth removed. But there was also every reason to believe she would recover and have a happy, healthy life.

Our darling girl came through that surgery – which came with a $1,035 price tag. An online campaign in June raised $451, so we were grateful to learn that the Petfinder Foundation awarded us a $500 Emergency Medical Grant to help cover the balance.

Today, Reba is feeling “fancy” once again in a Whiskers TNR foster home. She is a lovable, easygoing girl who enjoys finding sunny spots for cat naps and being the center of her foster family’s attention. Thanks in part to the Petfinder Foundation, she is adoption-ready – hopefully bound for a forever home soon in which she will be treated like the sweet starlet that she is.

Meet Reba here.
