Hero's Haven Animal Rescue: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to this grant, we were able to purchase furniture for our cats that is easy to clean and sanitize. Some of our foster homes take cats and kittens with communicable diseases such as URIs and ringworm, and it is important that we can disinfect the furniture between cats/litters of kittens to prevent the spread of disease.

Also, some of the furniture will be used at our Petsmart adoption center, where we are not able to have any fabric or carpeted furniture due to disease-prevention protocols. Our cats at Petsmart can have comfy furniture now while waiting to find their forever homes thanks to this grant.

How many pets did this grant help?

100+

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Amelia came to us after almost being euthanized due to needing rescue placement following an emergency surgery to save her life when she was found as a stray with a kitten stuck in the birth canal.

Unfortunately, none of her kittens survived, but we couldn’t let Amelia lose her life simply because the local animal control was out of funds to help her.

There was a concern for sepsis after her surgery and she needed immediate rescue placement. We stepped up to save her life and she rebounded and survived.

She spent a few weeks getting healthy, including winning a battle with pancreatitis, at one of the vet clinics we work with. It didn’t take long for her to thrive, though, and she moved to our Petsmart adoption center.

While there, she enjoyed the cat furniture we purchased with this grant and the love and attention of our wonderful volunteers. She was adopted earlier this month into a wonderful, loving home. Her new family is awesome and her mom is even a veterinarian!
