MCPAWS Regional Animal Shelter: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

These grant funds were used to purchase two dog waste stations for our Waggin' Trails at the shelter. There are several dog-walking trails on the five-acre property where staff and volunteers walk dogs daily. These stations make life much easier for our volunteers and cleaner for our dogs. We are so happy to be able to provide these convenient stations for our staff and volunteers to help keep our dog-walking trails clean!

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Rocky Road came to MCPAWS after being found, skinny and abandoned, near a local hiking trail. It was clear he had been on his own for some time.

Rocky was brought to MCPAWS by a good Samaritan and provided with immediate medical care. Soon he was bathed, fed all the good foods, neutered, and provided with several walks each day by our staff and volunteers. Rocky put on weight and his health improved after just a few weeks at the shelter.

Rocky’s favorite activity was going for walks on the trail system around the shelter. The new waste stations provided a convenient place to dispose of pet waste, which made walking Rocky an even more enjoyable experience for our staff and volunteers. Being able to provide this care and enrichment ultimately led to Rocky Road’s adoption.
