West Suburban Humane Society: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation 2025 Dog Enrichment Grant helps rescue dogs at the West Suburban Humane Society by providing new beds. The grant funding was used to provide nine 40" x 25" Kuranda dog beds to encourage physical rest and mental recovery for dogs residing in our adoption center. These cot-style beds are made from durable PVC tubes and fixings with 40 oz. heavy-duty vinyl fabric. The materials have moderate chew-resistance while also being easy to clean. The lifted design keeps the dog 7" off the ground, allowing for cool air underneath during the summer and keeping them off cold floors during the winter. The selected size fits our largest dogs but also allows for the smallest of puppies to have room to stretch out. The nine new beds replaced old and dilapidated beds, a necessary and impactful improvement for the puppies and dogs awaiting adoption.

How many pets did this grant help?

An estimated 71 rescue dogs and puppies will be helped during the calendar year through this project.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Dale and Francis arrived at the West Suburban Humane Society (WSHS) from Kentucky after the animal-control facility they were at ran out of space.

Only five months old, the puppies were from the same litter and waited patiently for their turn to be adopted. However, the dog beds they were sleeping on were old and worn from years of use.

Through the Petfinder Foundation 2025 Dog Enrichment Grant, nine new Kuranda beds were purchased and assembled. With the new beds, Dale and Francis were much more comfortable and were able to sleep much better each night.

Dale and Francis both were well-rested and able to put their best paws forward when they met prospective adopters and families. After just over a month in the adoption center, both puppies found loving, forever homes.
