One Tail at a Time: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks so much to the Petfinder Foundation for the Cat Enrichment Grant! We typically have between 100-200 cats and kittens in our care at any time, with several litters of kittens during "kitten season."

If you've ever met kittens, you know they love to PLAY! This means we go through a whole lot of toys in a year, with most being provided by our lovely foster homes. The Cat Enrichment Grant meant we were able to provide fosters with spring toys, scratchers, wand toys, Churu treats, plush kickers, and even clickers to work on clicker training with a few of our young adult cats who needed that extra enrichment.

We were also happy to be able to provide a bonded pair of cats who were both on weight-loss journeys with puzzle feeders to not only help with their calorie intake, but also to provide them enrichment to exercise their brains!

How many pets did this grant help?

600-800!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Strawberry, a 4-month-old tuxedo cat, came to One Tail at a Time from a partner shelter and was quickly diagnosed with lice! Because of this, he had to stay in strict isolation at his foster’s home, which is pretty tough for a young kitten like him.

Thanks to the Cat Enrichment Grant, we were able to provide his foster with scratchers, plush kickers, Churu treats, and spring toys (always a kitten fave!) to help him pass his time in quarantine.

He’s since been cleared of lice and moved foster homes. He is happy to have, not just toys and enrichment, but also foster siblings to snuggle and play with while he waits for his people! You can view Strawberry on Petfinder here.
