Muncie Animal Care & Services: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The funds were used to spay and fully vaccinate 12 female cats. Expenses for one female cat include:
Spay $40
Rabies vaccine $17
FVRCP $6.46
Combo testing $13.50
TOTAL $76.96

$76.96 x 12 = $923.52
Our grant award was $1000. We put the remaining $76.48 toward the expenses of another cat.

For six weeks, no veterinarians were performing spays and neuters in our area, so our intakes were increasing along with the number of animals that were not fixed. We had anticipated a large number of surgeries to be scheduled once this opportunity was again available. The grant award paid for 12 cats to be fully ready for adoption. This also helped take some of the strain off our already limited budget.

How many pets did this grant help?

12.5 cats

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The first cat pictured is Westlee. Westlee came in as a stray and we had to hold him for five days in case an owner was looking for him. No one came. Westlee was a polydactyl, older male. He had a wonderful personality. Once his stray hold was up, our vets had stopped doing surgeries. Westlee patiently waited for six weeks to be neutered. Once he was fixed, he was quickly adopted. Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation grant, Westlee and 11 other cats were quickly altered and found their way into amazing homes.
