Humane Indiana: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With funds from the Petfinder Foundation Dog Field Trip Grant, Humane Indiana was able to purchase crucial supplies to keep our dogs safe, secure, and marketed as adoptable during their "Dog's Day Out" events. With these supplies, we will be able to send a higher number of dogs out on field trips equipped with harnesses, leashes/sleeves, and additional supplies to get them a much-needed break from their kennels while also expanding our marketing reach.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Buttercup is an 11-year-old dog who has been in and out of shelter care since 2015. Most recently surrendered in May 2025, Buttercup spent months in her kennel waiting for an adopter to notice her.

Shortly after our grant-funded supplies arrived, Buttercup went on a Dog’s Day Out, which allowed her to be seen out in public. The short-term foster was able to share information on Buttercup’s in-home behavior, how she rode in the car, how she did on-leash at a park, and other helpful facts about her.

Less than two weeks later, thanks to the notes provided from her outing, Buttercup was adopted!
