HELP The Animals, Inc.: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant enabled us to discard some very old and deteriorating Kongs and provide structurally sound Kongs to all the dogs in our care during the evening kennel care shift.

Our area is extremely resource-poor, and we are hard-pressed to not only purchase a good supply of Kongs but also to recruit enough volunteers to provide our dogs with sufficient time out of kennel on a daily basis, so additional enrichment such as Kongs is extremely important for us. Thank you so much for awarding us this grant!

How many pets did this grant help?

100

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tyson is a large, very strong senior pit bull who has been with us for some time.

Tyson is generally calm and well-behaved in the kennel as long as he has a Kong, which he immediately picks up in his mouth whenever anyone comes near his kennel (it’s pretty adorable; we call it his emotional-support Kong). Having this self-soothing behavior enables him to self-regulate in the stressful environment of the shelter.

Tyson is a staff and volunteer favorite, and while he requires a specific type of home due to his size and strength, we are hopeful that we fill find the right adopter(s) for him.

Tyson is available for adoption at HELP. You can meet Tyson here.
