Vanderburgh Humane Society: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This year's grant replenished our supply of harnesses and "Adopt Me" bandanas for dogs going out on our Mutt's Morning Out program. Now, no matter how many people show up to walk dogs, we will always have enough of the appropriate-sized harnesses and some swag to send with them!
How many pets did this grant help?
150
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Rufus (first photo) is one of our dogs who gets taken on Mutt’s Morning Out at least four days week by our volunteer James, who is his “Big Dog Buddy.” We’re thrilled to report that Rufus was adopted on Nov. 12! There’s no doubt that his mornings at the park with James helped with his kennel presence and overall mental state during his wait for a forever home.
Sprinkle (second photo) was another dog who was found as a stray by a VHS volunteer named Sam. She was never reclaimed by her people so she went up for adoption. While she waited, Sam took her out every day on his lunch break since he works just up the street. Her photo shows her in front of the Christmas tree at a local donut shop on her Mutt’s Morning Out! She was adopted on Dec. 14.
James’s new buddy is Uno (third photo, and with James in the fourth photo), who is still awaiting a home. You can meet Uno here.
Another dog currently being served by this grant is Sandy (fifth photo), a large Anatolian shepherd mix, who has gone out on MMO several times with regular participants David and Mary Ann. You can meet Sandy here.
