How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant helped our organization by allowing us to use the money to buy food and pay vet bills for our amazing exotic parrots. A pelleted diet is the best food for parrots and it is are very expensive. Since exotic parrots are fairly uncommon as pets, finding and paying for avian veterinary services is additionally very expensive.

Hello, my name is Casper and I am a male umbrella cockatoo. I am about 40 years old. I was domestically hatched and raised as a pet but purchased by a breeder many years ago. I spent most of my life in a small cage with my mate. We didn’t have much human interaction, and very little enrichment, so we plucked each other’s feathers.
My breeder decided to get out of the business, so I was surrendered to BNW. I hadn’t forgotten that I was once raised by people, and from the start I was happy to hold my foster mom’s finger with my foot and tell her my name. I come out of my cage daily now; I have toys to play with and I sit in the sun and look out the window.
I love the variety of food, especially scrambled eggs! I can be petted all over. I have made great progress and will now step up. If you would like to be my new companion for the next step in my life, I would love to meet you. Diet: Pellets, fruits and veggies, nuts or seeds as treats.
At this time only Mr. Casper is up for adoption. We are waiting to see if Mrs. Casper can come around some more. And if the right person comes along, she will definitely be considered adoptable.
