Stray Cat Sanctuary: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The 2024 Cat Enrichment Grant has allowed our shelter to provide a safe and secure outdoor area for our cats to enjoy. Our cats are now able to experience all the amazing benefits of being outdoors, while still being protected from predators, vehicles, and humans who want to harm them. Building this catio also ensures we are protecting our wildlife friends.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Our 9-year-old siblings, Sylvester (first photo) and Olivia (second photo), found themselves at our shelter after their dad passed away. Their dad would often sit on his front porch with Olivia and Sylvester by his side, and all three would enjoy the fresh air together. Since coming to the shelter, Olivia and Sylvester haven’t been able to experience the outdoors as they were used to doing.

That all changed with the 2024 Petfinder Foundation Cat Enrichment Grant, which provided funding for Stray Cat Sanctuary to build our catio. Olivia and Sylvester’s personalities have blossomed! Sylvester can’t wait to go outside and nibble on the grass and fresh catnip. Olivia loves being able to lie out on a shelf, high enough away from the kittens, and watch the birds and butterflies.

Both are still up for adoption, but we are confident they will find an amazing home together.
