Broken Tail Rescue, Inc.: Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The $1,500 grant from the Petfinder Foundation has helped Broken Tail Rescue get off to a great start in 2026.
This grant was used to provide financial support for vaccinating our rescue animals so they could be safely prepared for adoption. Since January 2026, we have taken in 138 new cats, and every animal in our care is spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated before adoption.
Our cats must receive both FVRCP and rabies vaccinations to be eligible for adoption. With our rescue discount, these vaccinations cost $50 through Banfield Pet Hospital and $69 through Heal Vet Clinic.
The $1,500 grant enabled us to vaccinate 30 rescue cats, helping ensure they were healthy and ready to find homes.
In the first nine weeks of 2026 alone, 70 cats have been adopted into loving families. We are incredibly grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for helping us prepare 30 of these cats for their forever homes.
Thank you for supporting lifesaving rescue work.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
We were contacted by an individual who had obtained a kitten on Craigslist and quickly realized they were not equipped to provide the care she needed. They were desperate to find a safe place for the kitten and asked if they could surrender her to Broken Tail Rescue.
The kitten, later named Mabel (first photo), had never been to a veterinarian and was estimated to be about three months old. Mabel was taken to one of our community veterinary partners for her spay surgery and vaccinations so she could begin her journey toward adoption.
One of our volunteers immediately fell in love with Mabel and submitted an adoption application. Mabel has now been in her forever home for a few weeks and is thriving with her new canine brother. The two play nonstop — except when Mabel pauses to snuggle with her adoptive mom or stretch out in a sunny spot for a nap.
Medical care to prepare rescue animals for adoption is the most significant expense we face as an organization. We are deeply grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for helping cover the cost of essential veterinary care and making it possible for animals like Mabel to receive the care they need and find the loving homes they deserve.
