Broken Tail Rescue, Inc.: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Petfinder Foundation's Emergency Medical Grant of $500, we were able to pay the remaining balance for Trudy’s life-saving visit to Veterinary Emergency Group.

How many pets did this grant help?

This grant was specifically designated to help Trudy with emergency medical care.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Trudy, a 5-month-old kitten rescued as a stray in mid-November, had just settled into our adoption center when she suddenly became lethargic, stopped eating, and began vomiting. Our primary veterinarian urged immediate emergency care, and on Nov. 25 we rushed her to VEG. Emergency treatment is never inexpensive — but when a baby’s life is on the line, there is no hesitation.

At VEG, Trudy received fluids, medications, bloodwork, radiographs, and two ultrasounds, which indicated a likely emerging small-intestinal obstruction. Her total bill came to $3,341.90.

Because of the Petfinder Foundation grant, we were able to fully pay off her balance — and focus on what mattered most: her recovery and future. Today, Trudy is thriving in her forever home. Her adopter shares that she is doing great: snuggly, loving, and a cherished member of their family.

We are so grateful for support that makes second chances like Trudy’s possible.

Trudy was adopted and is now incredibly loved in her forever home. Her adopter wrote to tell us that Trudy is “an angel” and that they are deeply in love with her. Since her adoption, she has been healthy, happy, and truly thriving.

Without the emergency medical care she received at Veterinary Emergency Group, Trudy may not have survived. Your support helped us to pay for that medical care. Because she got the urgent treatment she needed, she now has the beautiful, joy-filled life that she — and every rescue — deserves. Her adopter sent us photos which are attached.
