Humane Society of Calvert County: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant has helped us to rescue dogs, bring them into our facility, and adopt them into wonderful homes. We are able to help our adopters with their adoption fees, and they are so grateful for this opportunity to adopt a dog.

How many pets did this grant help?

We just received the grant money and, to date, we've helped with the adoption fees of three pets, with more to come.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Ruck and Hondo (first and second photos) were dumped in front of [an open-admission] shelter in a box. Because the shelter was already full, an urgent plea was put out that they had to be rescued by 3 p.m. that day in order to save their lives. We immediately went into action, and they have been adopted into a loving home.

Jet (third photo) had several strikes against him: He was a black dog, and was in a shelter where the euthanasia rates were high due to lack of traffic coming through that facility.

Our rescue partners in Georgia put out a plea for us to take him in. We were able take Jet into our facility, and I am happy to say that Jet has found himself a wonderful adopter (fourth photo).

We were able to help the adopter out with adoption fees thanks to the Kia grant, and Jet and his new family are extremely grateful for this opportunity to adopt.
