Speak Rescue and Sanctuary: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We have several dogs with extreme medical needs and they need specialized care, including post-surgical boots and cones and other supplies. Also, one of the greatest needs for these pups is highly nutritional, highly palatable canned food. Some of them just don't feel great and don't have much appetite. Others are malnourished and need nutrient-filled meals that are easy to eat and very healthy. With this grant, we are able to purchase these supplies and are focusing on the very nutritious foods they need to thrive.

How many pets did this grant help?

Three so far, but we expect it will continue to help others all year

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Hayden is an Aussie pup we rescued after he was hit by a car. One of his back legs had to be amputated and one of his front paws was severely injured. He also had serious cuts all over his body. Hayden has had to go to the vet nearly every other day for weeks as they debride, clean, and rebandage his wounds.

Hayden was not very motivated to eat when he came in and he was very thin. Nutritious Royal Canin Recovery food has helped him get healthier and put on weight as he heals. He has also required lots of extra medical supplies, including walking boots to cover his bandages, as well as the bandages themselves.

Hayden is ready to move from his medical foster to a regular foster and will be put up for adoption soon. He’s the sweetest, happiest boy and can’t wait until he can run and play!
