Laurel Cats received a call about a badly injured cat in a woman’s backyard. When we arrived, we found a trail of blood leading into her outdoor cat house, where the cat had taken refuge.

To avoid causing the cat additional pain or stress, we decided the least traumatic way to transport him was to move the entire cat house, with the cat still inside. We carefully secured the house and transported it to the emergency veterinary hospital.

There, the veterinary team discovered that the cat — later named Sam (formerly Skippy) — had a severely fractured leg. They stabilized his condition and provided pain medication and antibiotics.

The following day, we took Sam to a surgical clinic where his leg was amputated. After surgery, he went home with foster volunteer Louise, who has experience helping cats recover from amputations.

As Sam healed, he also worked his way into Louise’s heart — and she ultimately decided to adopt him. Sam now has the loving forever home he deserves.
