Saved by Zade: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

As a small, grassroots nonprofit without municipal funding, Saved by Zade (SbZ) has to raise funds for all of the medical needs of kitties in our care. We are appreciative of the funds we received from the Petfinder Foundation for medical expenses for Gadreel Jax.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Gadreel Jax was a friendly stray who was brought to us by a concerned community member. Though Gadreel had been in the area for a little while, the woman had recently noticed he had what looked like an infected eye.

When Gadreel was brought to us and evaluated, it was determined that he needed entropion surgery. This was completed on April 16. He recovered and was determined to be ready to adopt.

However, he did not get a lot of attention from potential adopters for several months, despite his friendly and cuddly personality. His foster thought that might have something to do with his name (Gadreel) having some negative religious connotations. So SbZ decided to change his name to Kevin Jax.

He recently moved to the Constellation Cat Cafe in Lansing, MI. The Cafe is one of our adoption partners and has a great history of finding forever homes for our kitties. The environment really allows our cats’ personalities to shine and lets them make connections with potential adopters. We are pleased to say that Kevin was adopted on Sept. 11 through the Cafe!
