Saved By A Vet Tech Rescue, Inc.: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant was used to completely waive the adoption fee of one dog so far, and the remainder is available to waive the adoption fees of two additional adult dogs who have been in our care over 2.5 years once they have a qualified applicant interested in them.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Nestlé came into our care about 2.5 years ago as a 3-week-old puppy with her five littermates and her mom, Milkmaid (whom we sadly still have available for adoption also) from Detroit Animal Control.

The first two puppies of the litter were adopted out rather quickly, but the remaining three puppies stayed in our care waiting for homes until they were all over a year old. Slowly, they were adopted one by one, except for poor Nestlé and her mom.

We attended an event at a local theatre in our community this summer where we were invited to bring adoptable dogs to each showing because the play was about a dog getting adopted. Nestlé was the STAR of the show there and won the heart of one of their crew members — Molly and her family. After a lengthy trial adoption, they decided to move forward with adopting her (WOOHOO). While they could have paid her adoption fee, this grant allowed them to spend that money on her in different ways: new toys, collars, leash, treats, and going on adventures.

We are truly so thankful for this grant and can’t wait to be able to waive the adoption fees from it for Milkmaid and Perdita once their people come along too.
