Last Day Dog Rescue, Inc.: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thank you for the 2020 Purina Spring into Adoption Grant! Last Day Dog Rescue used the grant award of $500 to reduce our adoption fee from $285 to $1 for Asher, a male coonhound-mix dog who has been available for adoption through LDDR since June 2019. Also, LDDR used the grant to reduce our adoption fee from $285 to $35 for Laika, a pit bull terrier mix who was adopted out in 2018 and returned back to LDDR in 2019.

By being able to reduce the adoption fees for these two hard-to-adopt out dogs, we found the best new adoptive homes for Asher and Laika. Since Asher and Laika have been adopted out, LDDR has been able to utilize our foster volunteers to pull two more homeless dogs and provide vet care, food and supplies to them.

How many pets did this grant help?

Two dogs, plus at least two more dogs that we we able to bring into our rescue as a result of the these two dogs' adoptions.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Asher was found emaciated on a road in Ohio and taken to a local shelter. No one claimed him. LDDR pulled Asher and had him transported to Michigan, took him to a vet and placed him in a volunteer foster home. Asher was dog-selective, which meant he did not get along with all dogs. The shelter said he was good with cats, but we did not have him with any. Asher did not chew on things that did not belong to him, and his favorite thing was his doggie bed. He knew how to sit and to take his treats very gently. Asher would do best in a quiet, calm house with low foot traffic, no kids, no cats or dogs, and preferably with a fence. Apartments were not the best due to his size and selectiveness with other dogs. Since Asher’s needs were so specific, it took more that one year to find his fur-ever home. Asher is now in his new home!
