Oceana County Animal Friends: Cat Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant will help many cats, as many 100-200 a year, who will be able to enjoy the catio as a place to play until they find their forever homes. Murphy and Russell were listed on Petfinder and they were able to enjoy the catio before they found their forever homes. We were also able to bring in a large rescue project of 46 cats. These cats would not have been able to come to our shelter without the catio. We were able to put at least seven cats at one time in this amazing catio that was custom built for us thanks to the Cat Enrichment Grant.
I have attached pictures of Murphy, Russell, Wenworth, and Tango. All have been adopted and all got an opportunity to enjoy the catio.
How many pets did this grant help?
100-200 cats
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Murphy was brought to the shelter as a stray. He was found on the beach by a couple out walking. He was thin but very sweet. He was already neutered, so he had been cared for by someone in the past. We posted him as a found cat for weeks, but received no replies.
He was adopted by an amazing family with four kids (first photo) who will spoil him and give him all the love he needs.
Russell (second photo) was found as a stray. He came to the shelter and was sent to the vet to be neutered. He had a complication from his surgery and required 20 stitches and had to stay at the vet for three weeks.
During his stay at the vet, a construction worker fell in love with him. When Russell was healthy, the construction worker took him home on a trial basis. He then took him to get his booster vaccine and tested him for FIV. They found out he was positive and the construction worker didn’t feel comfortable keeping him.
We took him back and then found Russell a new home (third photo). This family was not afraid of FIV and fell in love with him. He is now happy and at his forever home.
