Warrior Dog Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We received five KONG toys, which we were able to distribute to our foster homes. We are grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for awarding our rescue these KONG toys! The grant has had an immediate impact on the dogs in our care. Enrichment is a critical component of our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned and neglected dogs.
The KONGs have provided essential mental stimulation for our dogs, especially those recovering from trauma or stress. By filling the toys with treats or food, we’ve been able to engage their problem-solving skills and keep them entertained during downtime, reducing anxiety and promoting calmness in our foster homes.
In addition to the direct benefit for the dogs, the grant has helped us allocate funds we would have otherwise spent on enrichment toys toward medical care and supplies for our rescue efforts.

One dog who has especially benefited from this grant is Trace (first photo). Trace came to us with a history of trauma, leaving her anxious and unsure of the world around her.
The KONG toy has become a key part of her daily routine, helping her channel her energy into something positive and keeping her mind focused. Whether it’s filled with peanut butter or her favorite treats, the KONG provides Trace with a calming and enriching activity that makes her truly happy (second photo). This has not only helped ease her anxiety but has also allowed her personality to shine through while she patiently waits for the perfect adoptive home.
We also use KONG toys to provide enrichment to our curious puppies, keeping their growing minds stimulated as they learn about the world. Additionally, the mama dog pictured in the photo loves having her own KONG to enjoy during her breaks from caring for her litter. Providing a little joy and relaxation to our hardworking mama dogs is one of our favorite ways to support them!
