O’Malley was in our care for over a year. He’d never had an application since he is an 11-year-old senior diabetic. Receiving the grant and taking off the cost burden of the veterinary food and supplies for his diabetes attracted a new adopter pool, and O’Malley found his furever home!
From his Petfinder profile: “Hi! My name is O’Malley, but I also go by Bob, Robert, or Robert O’Malley. My microchip held a most interesting tale. I was adopted in Georgia about 11 years ago as a baby. My owner reported me dead to the microchip company! Boy were they surprised when the rescue called and inquired about me and found out I was very much alive!
“We’re not sure how I ended up in Missouri, but here I am! I came in extremely frail and emaciated. You’d never know it now! It’s taken a while for me to get my round figure, but I work on it a lot. I LOVE food. Maybe a little too much. I have diabetes, but it’s super well-controlled. My foster mom will happily show you what to do.
“I am on a special diabetic diet. And you probably noticed I had to have an eye removed. Don’t worry! It was bothering me badly, so I’m happy to see it go. It doesn’t slow me down one bit! I know it seems like a lot to take on a street cat like me, but I promise I will fill your life with love and laughs!”
