Kal's Pals Animal Rescue: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Dog Enrichment Grant has been transformative for Kal’s Pals Rescue. With the funds, we were able to purchase a wide range of enrichment items, including interactive toys, balls, blankets, nose-work games, and durable beds. These tools have made a noticeable difference in the daily lives of our foster dogs — helping them release energy, stay mentally stimulated, and reduce anxiety.
Many of our dogs come from high-stress shelter environments or neglect situations. Enrichment has allowed them to decompress more quickly and engage in healthy play and confidence-building activities. Our foster families have reported calmer, happier dogs who rest better and are easier to train. This grant helped us create a more positive, low-stress environment that directly supports both behavioral progress and adoptability.
How many pets did this grant help?
This grant will directly benefit approximately 40-50 dogs in our program this year, as enrichment items are rotated among foster homes and reused for future intakes. The items purchased will continue to serve new dogs entering the rescue for months to come.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Dawn is a young dog who came into our care with reactive tendencies and anxiety, making daily management and decompression challenging. Through this grant, we were able to provide Dawn with enrichment tools that allowed her to redirect energy in positive ways — such as puzzle feeders, nose-work games, and durable chew toys. These outlets helped her stay mentally engaged, reduced her barking and pacing, and built her confidence around people and other dogs.
With consistent enrichment and patient foster support, Dawn is making tremendous progress. She now enjoys playtime calmly, settles more easily in her crate, and has begun to show her affectionate, goofy personality. Thanks to these tools, Dawn is now well on her way toward being adoption-ready — a remarkable turnaround for a dog who once struggled just to relax.
