Capital Humane Society: Play Yard Renovation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the Play Yard Renovation Grant to install additional fencing in our play yards. This fencing allowed us to create a catch-pen safety area leading into the play yard at our adoption center. Adding a catch pen allows us to safely conduct gate greeting before dogs enter the play yard to help ensure a safer introduction and an easy exit if dogs become overwhelmed. Yay for safer methods for outside play time! Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for making this possible.

How many pets did this grant help?

500-700

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Leia came into Capital Humane Society with a history of fearfulness of kids and new situations. It was apparent that she had so much potential for growth, though when brought into playgroups, she would become overwhelmed and defensive.

The double gate we were able to purchase thanks to the Play Yard Renovation Grant not only gave her additional time to acclimate herself to other dogs in the yard, but it also gave us the ability to give her a quick exit in order to keep her under her threshold and end her dog interactions on a positive note.

Because of that, we were able to build her confidence and give her more opportunities to make friends and learn what kind of dog friends she prefers!

All the information we learned about Leia and how she interacts with other dogs made her a stronger adoption candidate. She was adopted by a loving couple with another dog whom Leia was quick to befriend.

Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for making Leia’s story such a success!
