FuRRR Feline Rescue: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant FuRRR received was used for a rental van, gas and tolls for transporting cats from North Carolina to New Hampshire during Covid.

This grant made it possible for us to bring cats and kittens from N.C. high[-intake] shelters where we pull. Our regular transports were not available during Covid, so our volunteers made the trip down multiple times.

Dolly was pulled from the Greene County, N.C., shelter and she was pregnant at the time. She stayed in southern foster care until her kittens were 8 weeks old and able to travel to New Hampshire. Dolly and six kittens came on the transport to New Hampshire that was funded by the Petfinder Foundation grant and then went to a northern foster home, where they stayed until the kittens were old enough to be altered. All Dolly’s kittens were pending adoption in pairs before they were altered. What was even more wonderful was that mama Dolly was pending adoption and went home just before her kittens did! Seven kitties went to four wonderful families!

This transport brought 37 kittens and cats from high[-intake] rural areas in North Carolina. The transport was done on June 6, 2020, and so far approximately 25 of them have been vetted and adopted. The remaining ones are having their vetting in the next two weeks and most are pending adoption already.
