Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We have recently implemented an enrichment program for our sanctuary dogs, and part of that is having a sensory or food-based form of enrichment available for each dog upon their return to their kennel or cabin to reduce the stress of reentering the shelter environment. We currently have 21 dogs on our property and the KONG toy donation box enabled us to provide a treat-stuffed KONG to each and every dog on a daily basis. We have seen a reduction in barking and other stress-related behaviors in our dogs since implementing this procedure!
How many pets did this grant help?
Our entire dog population will benefit: currently 21 animals, but with adoptions and new intakes, that number is closer to 100.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Maybelle was rescued from a high-[intake] shelter. She suffered severe separation anxiety and did not “show” well in the shelter environment.
She was placed in a foster home that is now planning on adopting her, and she really enjoys her treat-stuffed KONGS, which have helped her to remain calm when left in her crate.
