NYC Second Chance Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
It is crucial to emphasize providing enrichment and mental stimulation to dogs in shelters. This is a critical factor in ensuring their well-being and happiness. Unfortunately, life in the kennels can be depressing and stressful for dogs. Toys can help dogs relax and alleviate stress, and a few hours of daily play can significantly improve their behavior and mental health. We are thrilled to see our dogs enthusiastic about the latest toys, which are perfect for chewing, licking, chasing, and tossing. We want to express our gratitude to the Petfinder Foundation and KONG for their contribution.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Brandy (first two photos) came to our care from Mississippi, where she was found in deplorable conditions, emaciated, and with lesions covering her skin. We took her into our care, healed her wounds, and gave her hope. She went from a timid young lady to a social butterfly. She befriended the other dogs at our shelter. She loves to play, and she even shares her KONGs. You can meet Brandy here.
Ty (third and fourth photos) came into our care recently and proved himself to be just as sweet as he seems. He is very friendly and playful. He loves chewing toys and playing fetch.
