SICSA Pet Adoption & Wellness Center: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed us to purchase much-needed supplies for our Foster Field Trip program! Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation's support, field-trippers now have designated treat pouches, "Adopt Me" leashes, harnesses, and collar-to-leash safety attachments. We previously shared supplies between our Animal Care and Foster teams, but no longer have to scramble to find the supplies to safely send our dogs on these highly beneficial outings!

How many pets did this grant help?

50

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lisa Frank was one of the first pets to benefit from this grant — and she actually benefited from it four times! First, she went on a Foster Field Trip with a new foster volunteer, who brought her to a local college campus.

This college is in the heart of a busy downtown metro area, so we needed to know that any pup venturing there was safely suited up. Thanks to our new equipment, Lisa was secure in her field trip gear, even when she wiggled and rolled around in the grass.

Despite her incredibly friendly nature, Lisa was still in our care a month later. Thankfully, one of the many benefits of our Foster Field Trip program is that it provides our longer-stay dogs with routine breaks from the stress of the kennel. Lisa went four off-site adventures during her time with us, and we strongly believe this helped minimize her stress levels to help keep her friendly and outgoing personality unharmed by the chaos of shelter life.

We’re happy to report that Lisa Frank was adopted after two months at SICSA and is thriving in her new home!
